Know the signs and natural remedies to deal with sleep apnea

A potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts is known as Sleep Apnea.

This is usually seen in the age group above 50 years and also can be caused due to obesity. Symptoms mainly include snoring loudly and feeling tired even after a full night’s sleep. People having sleep apnea usually experience excessive daytime sleepiness, insomnia, nightmares, sleep deprivation, or snoring. Episodes of no breathing, breathing through the mouth, or loud breathing, depression, dry mouth, dry throat, fatigue, headache, irritability, mood swings, or weight gain. The warning signs are of three types:-

  • Loud, persistent snoring.
  • Pauses in breathing, accompanied by gasping episodes when sleeping.
  • Excessive sleepiness during waking hours.

There is an actual reason for evidence that long term sleep-disordered breathing can have important health consequences. It may increase the incidence of high blood pressure (hypertension), diabetes, and heart problems. In short, it is also said that untreated sleep apnea can also kill the patient. Sleep apnea is very common, as common as type 2 diabetes. Untreated apnea can also cause high blood pressure and other cardiovascular disease, memory problems, weight gain, impotence, and headaches. Moreover, untreated sleep apnea may be responsible for job impairment and motor vehicle crashes. Sleep apnea has many different possible causes. In adults, the most common cause of obstructive sleep apnea is excess weight and obesity, which is associated with the soft tissue of the mouth and throat and tongue. During sleep, when the throat and tongue muscles are more relaxed, this soft tissue can cause the airway to become blocked.

The Lateral Sleeping Position is researched and said to be the suggested position to the patient who is suffering from sleep apnea. When the body is positioned on its side during the rest the airways are more stable and less likely to collapse or restrict air.

Sleep Apnea can be fixed naturally by:-

  • Maintain a healthy weight. Doctors commonly recommend people with sleep apnea to lose weight.
  • Try yoga. Regular exercise can increase your energy level, strengthen your heart, and improve sleep apnea.
  • After your sleep position.
  • Use a humidifier.
  • Avoid alcohol and smoking.
  • Use oral appliances.

Losing weight can cure obstructive sleep apnea. In overweight patients, it is usually found. This is the single most effective way to reduce OSA symptoms and associated disorders, according to a new study. The CPAP machine creates enough pressure in your airway to hold the tissue open, so your airway doesn’t collapse. The soft, steady jet of air from the CPAP machine creates enough pressure to keep the airway open. While you’re using CPAP, your sleep apnea symptoms stop. Your breathing and your sleep are healthy. UPPP, or in full, Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, has been the most common sleep apnea surgical procedure performed during the past 25 years. This procedure was developed to remove usually excess tissue from the soft palate and pharynx. The tonsils are also removed if present. This is how sleep apnea can occur and some ways to treat sleep apnea surgically and naturally
